A traditional healer, who claims to have administered his spiritual powers and charm 29 years ago to propel Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga to political prominence, has taken her to court, demanding payment of Shs200m for alleged breach of contract.According to Daily Monitor, Mr Damiano Akuze, in a suit filed before Jinja High Court on January 28, contends that on September 1, 1990, Ms Kadaga approached him at his shrine in Buwala, Buganda Zone, Lulyambuzi Parish in Kamuli District, seeking his traditional medicine to help her attain a successful political career.He says he administered the traditional medicine on her, which has propelled her to current national prominence.By Wednesday, the court had not summoned the Speaker to file her defence. The court will set the hearing date after she has filed her response to the suit. Efforts to contact Ms Kadaga for a comment on the matter were fruitless as she was reported to be chairing Parliament the whole day.“The defendant (Speaker Kadaga) requested the plaintiff (traditional healer) to work on her so that she would be given a big job in government and also be driven in a convoy like a president. The defendant did not have money to pay the plaintiff at the time. So the plaintiff accepted to work on her on condition that she would pay the plaintiff as soon as she got the job,” the traditional healer alleges.“The plaintiff worked on the defendant (Ms Kadaga) for two nights of September 1 and September 2, 1990, and the defendant acknowledged the good care that the plaintiff gave to her,” he adds.Mr Akuze alleges that since Ms Kadaga’s visit to his shrine, he has been administering his traditional medicine on her. “Because of the above, the defendant (Ms Kadaga) has served as East African Assembly delegate, MP, minister and currently as the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda,” he avers.“Immediately on the 3rd day of September 1990, the defendant (Ms Kadaga) was called by President Museveni and appointed minister and has since then held big positions in government,” he adds.Mr Akuze alleges that since 1990, Ms Kadaga has paid him only Shs1m, which was in October 2017, and has since refused to pay him the balance of Shs204.5m.He contends that Ms Kadaga had, in return for his traditional medicine, promised to construct for him a house worth Shs100m, give him Tipper truck worth Shs60m, a plot of land at Shs40m and four cows, among other rewards, making a combined worth of Shs204.5m.“The defendant’s (Ms Kadaga) refusal to pay the plaintiff (witchdoctor) is in breach of the contract as the plaintiff did all his work and has been administering traditional medicine up to October 2017 as contracted by the defendant but the latter has, without reason, breached the contract,” Mr Akuze states in the suit.“The plaintiff (Mr Akuze) has suffered mental anguish and inconveniences for which the defendant (Ms Kadaga) is held liable for general damages,” the suit reads in part.The traditional healer says he will adduce evidence during the trial to prove that Ms Kadaga is in breach of the contract. President Buhari has dismissed claims that his association with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano has diminished his commitment to the war against corruption. In a statement released by his media aide, Garba Shehu, President Buhari said that there is a difference between perception and reality. According to the statement, which followed comments after the proclamation by President Buhari of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, President Buhari cited a number of high profile prosecution of senior government officials that a former Secretary to the Government and a former state governor who is a party member and now serving term in jail as indications of will and determination to wage the anti-corruption war without fear or favour. The statement also added that the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusuf, is currently on administrative leave as part of President Buhari's commitment to transparency and accountability.The statement explained that despite some of the suspects being close to the President, he had not shielded them from investigation, administrative suspensions and prosecution.The Presidency added that it is sheer mischief to suggest that President Buhari is shielding anybody because of their closeness to him, explaining that no official under this administration would go unpunished once they break the law.On the specific issue of Governor Ganduje of Kano State, the statement noted that Dr. Ganduje, as a sitting Governor, enjoys immunity from prosecution in his own right. The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) on Thursday said it has initiated Legal Action at Federal High Court to stop President Buhari from participating in 2019 election over what it described as “his Mental and Physical instability.” In a statement signed by Ikenga Imo ugochinyere, Cupp, First National spokesperson, and Co-Plaintiff and CUPP member, Eunice Atuejide, the CUPP also “raises alarm over DSS plot to flrame, arrest, charge and eliminate Opposition Spokesperson Ikenga to stop him from releasing fresh evidence of plot to steal 5b from DSS election account by former DG DSS lawal Daura, and indicting documents of false assets declaration by key Buhari government appointees.” According to the statement, “the Opposition political parties have carefully studied President Muhammadu Buhari over the months, especially since his return to the country after the sickness that took him out of Nigeria for the better part of 2017, and have come to the conclusion that he is no longer mentally and physically fit to lead a nation like ours in this century.”
The CUPP went further to provide examples to prove that the President Buhari is not truly fit to carry on with the office and functions of a president. The statement reads in part:“A few recent examples will be necessary here. One, you will recall how the President almost fall flat on his face during his recent campaign visit to Lokoja, Kogi State. Despite that he flew into the town, the few steps the President took at the rally venue had a huge toll on him. When he was invited to the podium, he lost balance immediately he stood up. It was the timely intervention of his aides who were already keeping their eyes on him since they know his health status, that saved us what would have resulted into a national disaster.A few days after the Kogi episode, a similar scenario played out at the venue of his campaign rally in Kaduna. After he trekked a short distance to his seat, President Buhari was clearly exhausted. He was still managing to wave to those who were already at the venue when he suddenly sunk heavily into his seat even at a time the national anthem was being recited. The seat was his saving grace on that occasion.Still on his uninspiring ongoing re-election campaigns, we are all witnesses to the embarrassment President Buhari subjected the country to in Warri, Delta State. When it was time for him to present his party’s flag to the State governorship candidate, Great Ogboru, the President embarrassingly referred to the man as “the presidential candidate.” After those who surrounded him corrected him, President Buhari again referred to Ogboru as “the senatorial candidate.” Again, he was corrected and he came up with the most embarrassing one by saying the man is the “governortorial” candidate. The President must be using a different dictionary because the word “governortorial” does not exist in any good dictionary.You will also recall when he featured on a town hall meeting called “The Candidates” which was broadcast live on the Nigerian Television Authority. Among his various goofs at that event was when he was asked why he is seeking second term and he said since the party leaders chose him, he had to run.All those who watched that programme will recall how Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo who featured with him struggled very hard to come to his rescue whenever he goes off the track which he did many times. This probably explained why his men did not allow him to participate in the presidential debate organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria.We have come to the conclusion that re-electing Buhari will only empower members of the cabal that his wife admitted has hijacked his Presidency, to rule us for another four years from the dark.In order to save this great nation the disaster that will follow if President Buhari is in a rare happenstance re-elected, we the opposition political parties have therefore filed litigation in court seeking to declare him unfit to contest for 2019 election because of his mental instability.We are also seeking from the Court an Order disqualifying President Muhammadu Buhari from contesting the election to the office President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and an injunction restraining INEC from recognizing his candidacy. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will probe the TraderMoni micro-credit scheme of the Federal Government. INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this to reporters in Abuja while raising several concerns about vote buying by some politicians. He said the electoral body was aware of the controversy trailing the TraderMoni, stressing that they would investigate the scheme for possible violation of campaign finance laws. Professor Yakubu explained that the commission would study public comments on the scheme and assess whether or not the government violated the campaign finance laws. According to him, INEC has a mechanism for tracking campaign finance violations by the candidates and various political parties in the country. This comes amid accusations by individuals and groups, including civil society organisations who described the scheme as a form of vote-buying. Earlier, the INEC chairman addressed senior officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at a strategy meeting which focussed on the general elections. In his presentation, he highlighted 10 areas of collaboration between the electoral body and the FRSC to ensure the success of the polls.The post

Lagos state police have arrested a man believed to be the leader of a gay group, and a teenager for engaging in homosexuality.Prince Chinecherem, 32, is the ringleader of a gay gang who engage in their illegal acts in Lekki, Lagos police claim. He was arrested alongside a 16-year-old boy. According to Lagos state Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal, Chinecherem was using the teenager as a commercial sex worker. Not only was Chinecherem having sex with the boy, he was also pimping him out to other gay men.Edgal added that both Chinecherem and the teenager were found to be HIV positive after a test was carried out, which means their customers are likely to have contracted same through them. The police have declared two prominent male pastors and some business executives wanted for allegedly having gay sex with the teenager, - a minor.It was gathered that Chinecherem during interrogation, gave the identities of other members of the group including the prominent persons being hunted. Explaining how Chinecherem and the teenager were arrested, Edgal told newsmen that a teenager was seen sneaking out of Chinecherem’s house at Ejigbo in a suspicious manner on the 22nd of January. Suspicious neighbours approached him and asked what he had gone to do in the house but he could not give a satisfactory answer.The neighbours asked him to open a bag he was carrying and in it was used condoms with semen inside.Edgal added: At this point, the boy revealed that Prince Chinecherem was his lover. The matter was immediately reported to the Police at Ejigbo and the said Prince Chinecherem was arrested for interrogation.After preliminary investigation, the matter was called for further enquiry by the Gender Section of the Command.Both the suspects and the survivor were taken for medical examination and the result revealed that the survivor has long been introduced to homosexual act. The worst is that both of them are infected with HIV virus which causes AIDS. Edgal said the suspects would be charged to Sexual and Special Offences Court in Ikeja and that the boy had been sent to health counselors for health talk on how to manage the situation.The post

Once again, INEC has insisted that no candidate will be fielded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State for the Governorship, National and State Assembly elections. This was reaffirmed in a statement issued by the commission on Wednesday, January 30. According to the communique, “on the whole, there are 1, 066 candidates for the governorship elections, 14, 583 for the State Assembly elections and 806 for the FCT Area Council elections broken down into 105 Chairmanship candidates and 701 councillorship candidates”. The statement further clarified that the commission reviewed the situation of the APC in the state, noting that there are two rulings on the matter (State and Federal). According to INEC, a State High Court in Gusua ruled clearly that APC in Zamfara conducted primaries contrary to the position of the commission, on the other hand, a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the party did not conduct valid primaries and therefore is not eligible to field candidates for the elections.The post

An 11-month-old baby has died after being thrown in an oven by his grandparents and abandoned there to be burned alive.Baby Maxim Sagalakov was left by his mother Viktoria, 20, in the care of her parents in the Khakassia district of Russia. When she returned home, she was shocked to find her child's charred remains in the stove of the family's house in Kharoy village.The exact cause of death is still under forensic investigation but it is believed the child died from incineration after being burned alive on Tuesday.A neighbour said the grandfather had been out and got drunk on vodka. When he returned the child was thrown into the stove. 
A statement from the regional Investigative Committee in charge of probing serious crime reads: The grandparents were drunk and killed the baby.A family member found the body of the boy badly damaged by the high temperature inside the stove. The grandmother, 42, and grandfather, 47, who's surname is Miyagashev, have both been arrested and a criminal investigation has been launched into the 'deliberate murder of a helpless minor', said law enforcement sources. If convicted, they face a life sentence.

EFCC has reacted to the activities of some former staff of the commission who are still parading themselves as being in the employ of the Commission, and using this means to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. According to EFCC, 'preliminary investigation shows that some of the fraudsters brandish seemingly authentic Identity Cards as staff of the Commission to prey on their prospective victims. They make monetary demands and in return give promises to help stall ongoing corruption investigation, or promise to help secure employment for some people or their loved ones in the Commission'. Investigation also revealed that some Identity Cards being paraded by the hoodlums are those of members of staff who have earlier reported them as lost or stolen at gunpoint and got Police Reports to be able to get replacements from the Human Resources Unit of the Commission. Besides, some extortionists also design and print fake Identity cards with which they carry out their blackmail and extortion activities. While measures are being put in place to curtail the activities of these fraudsters, members of the public are hereby advised to also desist from patronising anyone who drops the name of an EFCC officer with a promise to help resolve an ongoing fraud case, or for employment purposes.Members of the public are advised to report any such cases of extortion to the nearest police station or send mail to info@efccnigeria.org. A driver reckless driver rammed into a group of students in Umuchu, Anambra State, killing two on the spot. The incident happened on Wednesday evening, along Osete Expressway, Umuchu. The students of God's Own Secondary school, Umugama, were heading home when the Hilux van lost control and hit them.

A 25-year-old Nigerian man, Prince Jerry, committed suicide on January 28 2019, by jumping under a train in Tortona, Genoa, Italy after his request for a residency permit for humanitarian reasons was rejected, Monsignor Giacomo Martino, the head of association Migrants, said on Thursday.Martino, who is in charge of the association that helps migrants in the port-city, made the announcement in a chat group with his parishioners.The message was subsequently shared on social media Wednesday night and published by local newspapers on Thursday.Jerry's funeral will be held Friday morning, at the Chiesa dell'Annunziata in Genoa.Meanwhile some of Jerry's friends have taken to Facebook to mourn him.
