An anonymous Twitter user shared a video of US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez dancing with the aim of causing her a public embarrassment. But it backfired as the congresswoman instead received an outpouring of support. The 30-second clip was tweeted on Thursday by an account named @AnonymousQ1776.The video was filmed when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was still a student at Bosto University. It was taken from a longer video where Ms Ocasio-Cortez and other students performed a dance from The Breakfast Club to the song Lisztomania by Phoenix. The video was one of a number of "Brat Pack Mash Ups" that swept the internet in 2010, the year before the politician graduated from university. But the anonymous Twitter user shared it online and tried to shame Ms Ocasio-Cortez.The poster @AnonymousQ1776 captioned the video:Here is America’s favourite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is.

Contrary to the poster's expectations, social media users jumped to Ms Ocasio-Cortez's defence. The account used to tweet the video was later deleted, after the derisive tweet attracted thousands of replies defending Ms Ocasio-Cortez and mocking the attempt to discredit her.Ms Ocasio-Cortez is the youngest woman to ever be elected to the US Congress. The Democratic politician, who is from New York, was sworn in to Congress on Thursday.Below are Twitter reactions and the video.
