Photos/Videos: Nigerian man allegedly dies of overdose during drug raid in South Africa; fellow Nigerians accuse police of beating him to death

Constable Peter Kareli of the Free State SAPS has confirmed that a Nigerian man identified as Iyke Paul Nwokocha, died as a result of drug overdose during a drug search operation in his room in Sasolburg, on Tuesday, January 15.  "The man escaped during the raid when he saw that police were on to him and swallowed the drugs while he was running. The postmortem results have shown and confirmed that he overdosed," said Kareli.   A complaint of the house being used as a drug den prompted the search and after obtaining a search warrant, they went ahead with the drug search where drugs worth R15 000 and an undisclosed amount of cash was seized by the police at the victims room. Subsequent after his death, an alteration between Nigerians and Police officers occurred where Nigerians accused police officials of beating Nwokocha to death.   According to a Nigerian, Collins Oyegunle, who lives in Sasolburg, Nwokocha was strangled to death by the police.  "Another Police brutality in Sasolburg
South Africa. South African policeman just strangle a Nigerian man to death about 4 hours ago. May soul rest in peace IK" he wrote.  "They searched the house and didn't find anything. They started beating him saying he must provide drugs. They handcuffed him, covered him with plastic and started beating him," Another Nigerian said. Watch videos of Nigerians protesting over the death of Nwokocha. The post Photos/Videos: Nigerian man allegedly dies of overdose during drug raid in South Africa; fellow Nigerians accuse police of beating him to death appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
