The 8-month-old baby whose pram was hit by a car as his parents walked him has died one week after the tragic accident that killed his mother while his horrified father watched.Nicole Newman, 23, was pushing her son Luciano's pram while walking with her son's father Charlie Bianco-Ashley, 25, on Sunday, January 13. During the walk, at about 8pm, the mother and son were hit by a car in Penge, south London.Charlie Bianco-Ashley watched the tragedy unfold and threw himself in front of the pram to save his son and his childhood sweetheart. But the car missed him by inches.

Nicole Newman died at the scene moments after screaming for her son. The son was critically injured and was taken to a hospital. He has now died one week later, it was revealed today.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: 'An investigation to establish the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing and the driver of the car is co-operating with police.'Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and urge anyone with dash cam footage, including footage from the minutes leading up to the collision, to come forward.Luciano's grandmother, Gabriella Bianco-Ashley, described how the family have been 'torn apart' as a result of the tragedy.Before the child's death, Gabriella Bianco-Ashley gave a report on his condition, saying:I visited the baby last night in hospital. He's in a critical condition and going for an operation today. He had to be resuscitated twice and has a spinal injury.Charlie told me the driver came from nowhere. He tried to get between the driver to protect his son and Nicole. Witnesses have told how Mr Bianco-Ashley screamed out for his child after the accident.Sitting at the roadside and being comforted by police, he shouted: 'I need my baby'. Carlton Fiddler, who runs a takeaway opposite, said: 'Police were trying to calm him down. He was shouting. He was hysterical.'
