The Imo state police command has nabbed 20 year old Bright Ori and 18 year old Munachi Obodo for allegedly murdering a tricycle (Keke) operator and stealing his machine in the process.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Mr Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of police, DSP, the murder suspects had on Monday hired a tricycle operator from Douglas Road in Owerri, the state capital to Avu in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state where they allegedly sent him to his early grave and immediately zoomed off with his tricycle.
The command's spokesperson disclosed that the duo reportedly diverted the movement of the tricycle to Area V Avu,towards port Harcourt road in Owerri, wherein they allegedly stabbed the driver, used a belt to strangle him to death and made away with his tricycle .
Mr Enwerem further informed that luck ran out of the two young men, as they were immediately rounded up by police men said to be on a routine patrol in the area.
The police stated that the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue in federal Medical Center, Owerri, adding that the suspects have confessed to the crime. While informing that that the tricycle has been recovered, the family of the murdered contacted, the PPRO concluded by saying that investigation was on with the view of bringing the suspects to justice.
PPRO said "on August 29,at about 15:30 hrs, the duo of Bright Ori, age 20yrs and Munachi Obodo,18yrs both of Ikwerede, Awarra in Ohaji hired a tricycle (keke) along Douglas road Owerri to Avu in Owerri West LGA. While driving' towards Avu, they diverted the tricycle to Area V Avu. along Porthacourt road, Owerri where they stabbed and used a belt to strangulated the tricycle operator to death.
In an attempt to escape with the tricycle, a team of Policemen on patrol nearby responded to the scene where the culprits were arrested and tricycle recovered. Corpse of victim has been deposited at the FMC mortuary Owerri and family has been contacted. investigation has commenced. Suspects have made useful statements confessing to the crime".
