Bishop David Oyedepo was alleged to have threatened to open the gate of hell on those opposing the former president Goodluck Jonathan in the weeks leading up to the 2015 general elections.

The bishop also said the emergence of private tertiary institutions, championed by the church, has helped to right moral codes in the country’s educational system as well as help to eradicate cultism and activism.
But it appears the comments of Oyedepo who was close to the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, has attracted the ire of some Nigerians who have accused him of making empty promises not backed by the bible.
Others attacked the bishop for running a private university that many of his church members cannot afford to send their kids to.
