Mrs. Ngozi Anyanwu and Goodluck Anyanwu were arrested by the operatives of the Imo State Police Command for allegedly stealing a day-old male child, Chukwunoso, from a maternity in Isiala Mbano Council Area of the state.
The state Commissioner, Taiwo Lakanu, said when the command received the news of the sudden disappearance of a new born baby on August 19, 2016, his men immediately swung into action and arrested the kidnappers at their den in Umuelemai.
Ngozi Anyanwu, who confessed to the crime, said she stole the baby to punish the matron of the maternity, who she alleged, had refused to pay her the money she owed her. She said she never intended to sell the baby or harm him.
Meanwhile, the elated mother of the baby, Mrs. Uchechi Ekwedike, commended the commissioner of Police, disclosing that the suspects stole the baby at their second attempt, after she (Ekwedike) went outside to answer somebody.
